The Kansas Highway Patrol will announce participation in a new program geared to help teens travel more safely around large trucks and commercial motor vehicles.
The Teens and Trucks program was developed in Arizona by multiple public safety partners. The program was developed to address an area of driving safety not always addressed in traditional settings: driving around commercial motor vehicles and large trucks. Studies have shown that often (nearly 70-percent of the time); crashes between large trucks and passenger cars can be attributed to the actions of the passenger car drivers. Young people often do not realize that these trucks and cars differ in their handling.
Teens and Trucks support materials will be available for distribution, as well as safety information on sharing the road with trucks.
The implementation of the Teens and Trucks program in Kansas is an effort to help save lives and prevent injuries on Kansas roadways.
