Blue Springs council discusses new firehouse

Blue Springs Council discussed plans for the new fire building at their Tuesday night meeting. Members of the Blue Springs Rural Fire Department were present at the meeting. The preliminary cost of the steel building is $135,000.  The final cost, design and application for a local grant have not been completed. Rural Fire board members John Linder and Roland Hardin were hopeful that the city would contribute funds for the project. Mayor Lonnie Meyer, and Council members Neumann, Scheele and Wolf indicated they were receptive to having the city contribute.  Council members said they were willing to consider a monetary contribution from the Keno Fund.  The members also expressed that they felt their resources were limited by pending city projects such as the:  new lift station, replacement of Broad Street main, armor coating, and plans to pursue grant funds for new paving.  A motion was approved to donate in-kind water and sewer line work/lines to the fire department and to consider monetary donations at a later time.
