Some Good News at Lovewell

The folks at Lovewell Lake finally got some good news today from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. It comes 5-weeks after the lake was first shut-down July 16th.

The Secretary of the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks has given park officials the green light to open the reservoir to pleasure boating and fishing activities. The latest KDHE water toxin tests showed a substantial drop in the toxic levels generated by blue-green algae bloom growth.

The toxin levels have not however, decreased enough to allow water contact activities such as swimming, skiing and jet skiing. Those activities are still prohibited until further notice.

That notice is at least a week away with the next KDHE water testing date, Monday of next week.

About Mike Schrant

Mike is one of those guys who has spent nearly a lifetime trying to figure out what he wants to do when he grows up. He has split time as a broadcaster and educator having first worked in radio in the early 1970’s while attending junior college. The two careers are directly connected because many of the 25 years as an educator were spent teaching broadcast journalism at the high school and college levels. Mike is married and has three adult children (no grandchildren yet) and enjoys sports, debating politics, gardening, landscaping-hauling rocks, and swapping stories with the "good old boys".
