Cannon Campaign Hits Another Bump in Road

Well-oiled machine, NOT! The gubernatorial campaign of Salinan Ken Cannon seems more like a bad version of the epic Samuel Taylor Coleridge poem “Rime of the Ancient Mariner”, a literary classic the El Saline High School English teacher is probably quite familiar with.

The Reform Party Candidate was this week charged in Cloud County District Court for falsely reporting a domestic disturbance.

He is accused of being the anonymous caller who reported to emergency dispatchers the sound of a disturbance as he drove past a rural Cloud County residence. The call said screaming was coming from the house.

Cloud County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the residence but their investigation found no evidence of a disturbance there.

Concordia Attorney Nels Noel has been appointed as Special Prosecutor for the case.

Cannon’s campaign has been plagued by miscues ever since his announcement that he was running for Governor at a high school assembly got him in hot water with district officials.

Cannon is a former high school English teacher and boys basketball coach at Lincoln Junior-Senior High School.
