The Board of Washington County Commissioners met in regular session on Monday, August 16, 2010 in the commission room at the Washington County Courthouse. Present: Alison Mueller, 1st District Commissioner, Roger Otott, 2nd District Commissioner; Gene Helms, 3rd District Commissioner, Chairman, and Lou Kern, County Clerk.
Chairman Helms called the meeting to order with prayer.
The next regular meeting will be Monday, August 23, 2010 at 8:30 AM.
Don Alldredge, custodian, brought in the cost of buying a 6 x 12 foot rug for the front door from Arden Nitz at $422.64 that was approved. The cost of buying dust mop heads rather than renting was also discussed.
Everett Lutjemeier, Administrator, and Ted Lillie, Board President, asked the commission if they would give approval to sell 30 acres of land that may not be needed by the hospital. The commission asked that all angles be looked at before making a decision and made no decision at this time.
The board met with John Denney, County Auditor, to prepare the 2011 budget. The county budget was set at 81.092 mills, up from 80.083 mills for 2010. The county valuation is $61,763,153.00 for 2011, up from $60,930,215 for 2010. Alison Mueller moved to adopt Resolution 08-10 expressing the property taxation policy of the commission with respect to financing the 2011 budget for Washington County. Roger Otott seconded and motion carried.
The board decided to participate in the National Flood Insurance program as presented by Tom Morey, Kansas Department of Agriculture, and to further participate in the mapping to be done at no cost to the county.
