Lovewell Lake Closed for a Second Week

It will be closed until at least next Friday, July 30th. That was the order issued by the Kansas State Department of Health and Environment yesterday after the latest test of water from the lake still had dangerous toxin levels. The toxins were produced algae blooms growing there.

Lovewell Wildlife and Parks Manager Rob Unruh said he was informed by KDHE yesterday that another test of lake water will be done next week on Monday and that those results, which should be available the following Friday, July 30th, will determine whether the lake is reopened or not.

The KDHE order includes a ban on the use of lake water by humans and the watering of livestock with it.

Lovewell has been shut down since Friday, July 16th.

About Mike Schrant

Mike is one of those guys who has spent nearly a lifetime trying to figure out what he wants to do when he grows up. He has split time as a broadcaster and educator having first worked in radio in the early 1970’s while attending junior college. The two careers are directly connected because many of the 25 years as an educator were spent teaching broadcast journalism at the high school and college levels. Mike is married and has three adult children (no grandchildren yet) and enjoys sports, debating politics, gardening, landscaping-hauling rocks, and swapping stories with the "good old boys".
