CRP Registration

Representatives from the local Farm Service Agencies will be attending training sessions on provisions for a new Conservation Reserve Program or CRP sign up next week. Unfortunately, no specific date has been set by the Ag Department for sign up yet, but it is anticipated that the sign up will be set sometime in August.

Initially 2.8-million acres were to be available for the program but the quota has been raised to 4.0-million acres USDA. No reason was given for the change in the quota.

Area producers will be notified when CRP sign-up can begin. That will happen as soon as provisions are made available and interpreted for use at the county level.

About Mike Schrant

Mike is one of those guys who has spent nearly a lifetime trying to figure out what he wants to do when he grows up. He has split time as a broadcaster and educator having first worked in radio in the early 1970’s while attending junior college. The two careers are directly connected because many of the 25 years as an educator were spent teaching broadcast journalism at the high school and college levels. Mike is married and has three adult children (no grandchildren yet) and enjoys sports, debating politics, gardening, landscaping-hauling rocks, and swapping stories with the "good old boys".
