River Valley Extension District Wheat Plot Tours – June 2, June 3, June 8 and June 10, 2010


            K-State Research and Extension – River Valley District in cooperation with area

commercial agri-businesses will host a series of wheat varieties plot tours on Wednesday, June 2,

Thursday, June 3, Tuesday, June 8, and Thursday, June 10, 2010. These educational plots allow wheat growers to see side by side comparisons with new and standard varieties at varied locations. Among the District locations, producers will see demonstrations on cold tolerance and disease & insect resistance. Kansas Wheat Alliance is providing some of the refreshments at the tours.

          Wheat plots tours will begin Wednesday, June 2 at 7:30 a.m. at the K-State North Central Kansas Experiment Field (2 miles west of Belleville, KS on Highway #36 on the north side). This plot features  replicated wheat varieties and the latest information on wheat fertility, disease, breeding, and insect management. Refreshments will be served.

            The Polansky Seed plot tour will also be held Wednesday, June 2 at 6:00 p.m. The plot is

 located 2 miles east of Belleville, KS on Highway #36 on south side. The meal will be sponsored

 by Polansky  Seed.

            On Thursday, June 3, 6:30 p.m., Ohlde Seed Farm, Linn, KS will host a plot tour. Location of plot: 3 miles south of Linn on Osage Road to 5th Road 1 mile to National Rd; turn North (right) on National to 6th & National Rd.  Meal will be sponsored by Ohlde Seed Farm.

            Tuesday, June 8, at 6:00 p.m. will be the tour of the Republic County FFA Plot at Cuba, KS located 1 ¼ miles West of SW corner of Cuba. Refreshments will be available.

            The Ashley/Ryan Stewart 4-H Wheat Plot, Washington, KS will beThursday, June 10, 6:30 p.m. Location:  6 miles North of Washington on Quivira Rd. Turn East (right) at the Stewart Seed sign, then turn left (north) at the 1st house.  Stewart Seed will provide a meal following the plot tour .
