Enrollment Continues For SCC Summer Camps In Beatrice

There’s still time to enroll a child in a series of summer camps at Southeast Community College’s Beatrice Campus.

Designed for children ages 6-13, the “Seriously Fun: Summer Camps on Campus” will take place June 14-18 on SCC’s Beatrice Campus, 4771 W. Scott Road.

Kelly Morgan, assistant director of Continuing Education at SCC-Beatrice, said there still were slots available for parents to get their child enrolled.

“I am excited about this first year of camps,” Morgan said. “We have a variety of camp topics to choose from, and we set the camps up for half day or full day to accommodate any schedule. Kids can attend for just one day or a full week.

Campers registered for morning and afternoon sessions can take advantage of the Lunch Zone program, a supervised lunch hour where campers bring a sack lunch.

The daily camp agenda calls for morning campers to arrive for check-in from 7:45-8:20 a.m. Parents will escort their children to the Truman Center on the SCC Beatrice Campus. Morning camp sessions will run from 8:30-11:30 a.m., followed by an hour for lunch in The Lunch Zone. Campers should bring a sack lunch from home. Drink will be provided.

The Lunch Zone is open for campers registered for both morning and afternoon camps. Morning campers will be escorted to a supervised lunch area, then escorted to their afternoon camps. Various games and activities will be held at The Lunch Zone.

Afternoon campers will arrive for check-in at 12:15 p.m., also at the Truman Center. Afternoon camp sessions will run from 12:30-3:30 p.m. Campers will sign out for the day from 3:30-4 p.m. at the Truman Center, the same time parents may pick up their children.

Each camper will receive a camp T-shirt and refillable water bottle.

Dennis Applegarth, who will be teaching a photography camp, said he’ll mix fun with learning.

“I can’t wait,” he said. “SCC’s summer camp will be loads of fun for young photographers, not just learning how to use a camera, but actually out shooting some way-cool pictures in some way-cool places. How cool to be able to learn and have a blast at the same time.”
