TOPEKA, KS—January 29, 2011, marks 150 years of statehood for Kansas. The Kansas 150 Advisory Committee launched a website today for communities across Kansas to become involved. The website, ks150.org, is a portal to events, programs, resources, and agencies that commemorate the anniversary of statehood.
“We believe the KS150.org website will be the key to success for the Kansas sesquicentennial commemoration,” said Mary Madden, Kansas 150 statewide coordinator. “It will allow all people, organizations, and communities across Kansas to share their resources, programs, projects, and events with others thereby embracing our goal to make Kansas150 a true grassroots celebration of statehood.”
Website users will find a calendar of events, to which they can contribute. Submission instructions are included on the site and involve working with local tourism contacts, which will enter related events through travelks.org. People interested in providing programs for local events can submit contact information on the website, where communities can locate program ideas. The Kansas 150 logo is available to communities and organizations to use in promoting their events and they can find these images online. In addition, users can find marketing toolkits with news release samples, 150 event ideas, ideas for celebrating Kansas Day 2011, and programs and activities presented by advisory committee agencies.
The Kansas 150 Advisory Committee is comprised of the Kansas Historical Society, Kansas African-American Affairs Commission, Kansas Division of Travel and Tourism, Kansas Arts Commission, Kansas Department of Transportation, Kansas Hispanic & Latino American Affairs Commission, Kansas Humanities Council, Kansas Lottery, Kansas Governor’s Office, Kansas State Department of Education, Kansas Wildlife and Parks, and the State Library of Kansas. The website was made possible through a grant from the Information Network of Kansas and developed by Kansas.gov.
