MANHATTAN, Kan. – Now is the time to “get around” and discover all the great things to see and do in Manhattan. Mark your calendars for the second annual Get Around 2it on Thursday, May 6 in Manhattan City Park from 4:30-7:30 p.m.
This community festival, sponsored by the Manhattan Convention & Visitors Bureau in partnership with the Manhattan Parks and Recreation Department, Manhattan Broadcasting, and Vista Drive In, will celebrate National Travel and Tourism Week by bringing together area attractions, events, and visitor-related adventures.
“This is a wonderful opportunity to learn what Manhattan and the surrounding areas have to offer,” said Karen Hibbard, director of the Manhattan Convention & Visitors Bureau. “We invite you to come, learn, and interact with the attractions, events, and venues that make us unique. There is always something going on in and around The Little Apple®.”
The evening in Manhattan City Park will feature live music from Arts in the Park artists Dave Zerfas and Los Habaneros, as well comedy from local performer Mary Renee. Visitors will have the opportunity to win prizes, including a grand prize package valued at over $800 and including an adult and child punch-card pass to the new Manhattan City Park Pool, a Garmin GPS unit, and two Sunday VIP tickets to Country Stampede. To enter the grand prize drawing, visitors must complete a Treasure Map by visiting locations and collecting stamped images from six sites located around City Park. Among the sites on the treasure map is an up-close look at construction of the new City Park Pool.
Numerous other prizes will also be awarded through drawings held during the evening. Tickets for the drawing are given in exchange for wooden “Get Around 2it” tokens that will be distributed at each vendor booth in the showcase. The booths, drawings, and music will be located near the Larry Norvell Band shell and the new Wefald Family Pavilion. Vista Drive In will offer a free hot dog to the first 300 visitors as well as a free glass of Walker Tea throughout the evening. Free popcorn will also be available.
In case of rain, the event will move indoors into the GTM Family Center in the pavilion. Everyone can “Get Around” to Manhattan on May 6.
