Information concerning 2009 statewide hay estimates and 2010 cattle estimates was released this week by Kansas Agricultural Statistics.
Kansas alfalfa production totaled 3.66-million tons in 2009 – a 27% increase above 2008 production.
The cattle numbers statewide in 2010 are down about 5% from the previous year. As of January 1st, cattle and calves held on Kansas farms and ranches totaled 6-million head.
The 2010 totals for cattle production represent the lowest number for Kansas since 1987.
