CRP General Signup

The Farm Service Agency is reporting that a general signup is anticipated in late summer in the 2010 Conservation Reserve Program.

Consequently, producers with expiring CRP contracts may want to apply for the General Signup to determine whether the existing CRP can be re-enrolled.

The FSA is also reporting that producers are inquiring about early land preparation on CRP ground in which they may destroy their cover to plant wheat this fall.

CRP participants that request early land preparation need to be aware that early land preparation activity will affect General Signup eligibility. If early land preparation activity is performed on CRP, the land is not eligible to be offered for the 2010 General CRP Signup.

About Mike Schrant

Mike is one of those guys who has spent nearly a lifetime trying to figure out what he wants to do when he grows up. He has split time as a broadcaster and educator having first worked in radio in the early 1970’s while attending junior college. The two careers are directly connected because many of the 25 years as an educator were spent teaching broadcast journalism at the high school and college levels. Mike is married and has three adult children (no grandchildren yet) and enjoys sports, debating politics, gardening, landscaping-hauling rocks, and swapping stories with the "good old boys".
