Moran Notes Tiahrt’s Earmark Reputation

As the August Primaries near, the war of words between the two heavy weight Kansas Republicans vying for the Senate seat being vacated by Sam Brownback, is starting to heat up.

Big First District Kansas Congressman Jerry Moran’s office made it a point to “point out” to voters that not one of the four candidates running for Congressman Tiahrt’s 4th Congressional District seat agree with the Wichita politician’s record when it comes to “earmarks”.

Moran spokesperson Dan Conston said, “As an appropriator, Todd Tiahrt has long championed some of the most egregious wasteful earmarks, including $400,000 for indoor tennis courts and voting against removing earmarks for Representative John Murtha’s “airport for nobody”.

Conston went on to say, “When even the candidates looking to replace Todd believe his signature issue of earmarks is wasteful spending that must be stopped, it’s clear Todd Tiahrt is part of Washington’s spending problem.”

About Mike Schrant

Mike is one of those guys who has spent nearly a lifetime trying to figure out what he wants to do when he grows up. He has split time as a broadcaster and educator having first worked in radio in the early 1970’s while attending junior college. The two careers are directly connected because many of the 25 years as an educator were spent teaching broadcast journalism at the high school and college levels. Mike is married and has three adult children (no grandchildren yet) and enjoys sports, debating politics, gardening, landscaping-hauling rocks, and swapping stories with the "good old boys".
