Heartland Residents Have A Heart for Haiti

Kansas City, Mo.- Three months after a massive earthquake devastated Haiti, The Salvation Army of Kansas and Western Missouri has received more than $800,000 to help care for thousands of people still suffering in the aftermath of the January 12^th disaster.

To date, nearly 10,000 people have donated $818,599 to The Salvation Army headquartered in Kansas City for Haiti relief efforts. Nationally, donations total more than $15 million for the organization’s relief and rebuilding efforts in Haiti.

Over the last three months, The Salvation Army has distributed more than 4 million meals to earthquake survivors and provided medical care to nearly 25,000 people. In addition, the organization has distributed thousands of tents, cots, flashlights and tarps. The Kansas City Salvation Army has sent four local emergency disaster workers to Haiti to assist with the recovery effort.

The Salvation Army has had a presence in Haiti since 1950, operating schools, clinics, a hospital, feeding programs, children’s homes and churches throughout the country. When the disaster struck, hundreds of the organization’s officers and staff stationed throughout the country were able to immediately respond to the crisis.
