Cloud County Comm. College Wins 2nd at Kansas Ag Contest

(Manhattan, KS) – Cloud County Community College Crops Judging team took second place at the annual Kansas Association of Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture (KACTA) contest Friday, March 26, The contests was hosted by Kansas State University (KSU). The CCCC team placed behind KSU’s team as there were no two-year and four-year divisions.

Individually, CCCC students did well. Levi Larkins, sophomore from Wamego, Kan., placed as the fifth high individual. Scott Henry, sophomore from Goff, Kan., placed eleventh overall while Cameron Alderfer, freshman from Centralia, Kan., placed fifteenth. Will Laffery of Clay Center, KS also participated as part of the CCCC “A” team.

CCCC “B” team members included Brandon Schmitz and Brandon Macke of Baileyville, Kan., Riley Richling of Horton, Kan., and Cody Hauschel of Waukee, Iowa.

Both of these crop judging teams will compete at the National Association of Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture (NACTA) Judging Conference in El Reno, Okla., April 16-17.

The crop judging contest consists of a general agronomic knowledge exam, an agronomic math exam, a plant and seed identification portion and a lab practical section consisting of agronomic diseases, insects and machinery.
