Construction on 12 duplexes and a community building will start by July 1 for low-income housing in Marysville.
Tax credits in an annual amount of $441,959 were approved for the Excel Development group’s project on Jan. 4 by the Kansas Housing Resources Corporation. Development director Bill Caton, Auburn, notified City Administrator Rick Shain that the project had been approved. A site plan will come before the Marysville planning commission at a 7 p.m. meeting Thursday in the City Building.
The project is to design residential rental senior housing for people ages 55 and older. The duplexes and community building will be constructed on 4.7 acres that Mick Keating, Marysville, owns. He has agreed to sell land off South 11th Road and Prairie Lane for an undisclosed amount.
This will be a taxable project for 15 years, Shain said at the Marysville City Council meeting Monday night. After 15 years, Marysville County Resource and Education Center, 405 N. Fourth, can take over the project, Shain said.
In April 2009 the city committed up to $38,400 in materials for a sanitary sewer and water lines.
Amenities will include, but are not limited to, appliances such as a dishwasher, washer and dryer, garbage disposal, refrigerator, safe room and single-car attached garage. Services that will support the complex include meals-on-wheels, income tax preparation, credit counseling, nutritional education and general public transportation.
The owners of the project are to set aside $400 a unit with annual increases of three percent in a segregated account for replacement reserves.
