KMCA Donates Child Safety Seats to KHP

The Kansas Motor Carriers Association made a donation of 105 child safety seats to the Kansas Highway Patrol today. KHP troopers and child seat technicians will be responsible for distribution of the safety seats statewide.

Kansas Highway Patrol Superintendent Terry Maple says, “KMCA’s generosity this year, as in years past, gives 105 more children in this state the chance to be kept safe should they be involved in a collision. I have seen the good this donation does, and have seen the difference it makes to Kansas families.”

The donation of child safety seats comes in between two major KHP safety promotions – Child Passenger Safety Week that took place in September and the upcoming Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day October 10th.

Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death nationwide for children ages 3-to-6 and 8-to-14. Over the last 10 years in Kansas, 138 children in those two age groups have died in motor vehicle crashes. Of those children, only 50, or 36% were properly restrained.
