Moran Pushes Beef Exports

First District Kansas Congressman Jerry Moran led a group of members of Congress to support cattle producers, beef producers and rural communities by recommending the new Administration adopt new strategies to recover lost beef export markets.

Moran has recommended that U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk and Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack change negotiation strategies to allow a more flexible approach to achieving access for U.S. beef in foreign markets.

Moran said, “Given our nation’s current economic condition, now is the time that we need every possible market available for Kansas cattlemen. U.S. farmers and ranchers have experienced significant economic harm from unjustified trade restrictions and we need to identify new methods to open overseas markets.”

Moran is a senior member of the House Agriculture Committee.

About Mike Schrant

Mike is one of those guys who has spent nearly a lifetime trying to figure out what he wants to do when he grows up. He has split time as a broadcaster and educator having first worked in radio in the early 1970’s while attending junior college. The two careers are directly connected because many of the 25 years as an educator were spent teaching broadcast journalism at the high school and college levels. Mike is married and has three adult children (no grandchildren yet) and enjoys sports, debating politics, gardening, landscaping-hauling rocks, and swapping stories with the "good old boys".
