Beloit’s Spangler Looks To Help Lead West To Fourth Straight Win

The 36th Annual Kansas Shrine Bowl will be held on Saturday, July 25 at Cessna Stadium on the campus of Wichita State University. In the grand scheme of high school football in Kansas only a select few are chosen to play in this game each year, and this year, two area players, Cas Spangler of Beloit High School and Justin Nixon of Smith Center High School, as well as Beloit High School coach Greg Koenig were selected to be a part of the event for the West squad.

Cas Spangler of Beloit is very excited to participate in this year’s games. First and foremost, Cas knows why the game is being played. Each year, all of the money raised in conjunction with the event is given to help with the needs of the children at Shriner’s Childrens Hospitals. Spangler along with all of the other participants in this year’s Shrine Bowl were able to go to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital in St. Louis, MO last week, and Cas told KD Country 94 & Z 96.3 Sports what that experience meant to him.

With the main purpose of the game in mind, the athletes will hit the field on Saturday to try and play to the best of their abilities. It’s something that Cas Spangler is familiar with. Spangler was Beloit’s leading rusher in his last two seasons, running for over 2,000 yards in both campaigns. His skill set will also send him to Hutchinson Community College to play running back in the fall. It’s clear that Spangler’s numbers show he is deserving of the honor to play in the game, and he is definitely looking forward to the opportunity and looking to help the West team to it’s fourth straight win.

Spangler and the rest of the west all-stars will look to extend that streak on Saturday night in Wichita. After a day full of activities, the Shrine Bowl game itself will kickoff at 7:00 p.m. at Cessna Stadium.
