First District Kansas Congressman Jerry Moran, along with the other Republican members of the Kansas delegation, recently requested an investigation into the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s flood map upgrading methods under its Flood Map Modernization Initiative.
Moran said, “FEMA’s map revisions have the potential to drop property values and reduce household income through flood insurance premiums.” Adding, “Protecting Kansans and businesses in flood-prone areas is always a priority for our state.”
The U.S. Government Accountability Office has agreed to review methods for upgrading flood maps. Moran complimented the GAO saying, “It is FEMA’s responsibility to provide consistent analysis of collected data. This GAO investigation will go a long way to ensure that this happens.”
