Swine Flu – Things You Should Do

The first confirmed death in the United States due to the Swine Flu was confirmed yesterday, a 23-month old child in Texas. Two days ago state health authorities confirmed the existence of two Swine Flu cases in Kansas, in Dickinson County.

Is it time to panic – as in PAN-DEMIC? Probably not says Lincoln County Public Health Officer Ladonna Rienert. According to Rienert, all of the area counties are staying in close contact with each other and are closely monitoring the situation with daily updates from KDHE and the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta.

She also says each person can do a great deal to protect themselves by using sanitary practices in personal hygiene.

At the absolute top of the list for Rienert – stay home if you are sick.

About Mike Schrant

Mike is one of those guys who has spent nearly a lifetime trying to figure out what he wants to do when he grows up. He has split time as a broadcaster and educator having first worked in radio in the early 1970’s while attending junior college. The two careers are directly connected because many of the 25 years as an educator were spent teaching broadcast journalism at the high school and college levels. Mike is married and has three adult children (no grandchildren yet) and enjoys sports, debating politics, gardening, landscaping-hauling rocks, and swapping stories with the "good old boys".
