Senator Lee Comments On State Budget

Last week was the last week of the regular session of the Kansas Legislature. After a three week break, legislators will return to Topeka for the wrap-up session which is expected to end sometime in mid-May.

This past week the Senate and the House gave final approval to the fiscal year 2010 budget bill.

36th District State Senator Janis Lee of Kensington said the latest economic news for the state may change those numbers.

Senator Lee said the bad economic news was the reason she voted against a tax reduction bill that included several new sales tax exemptions and an expansion of who would be eligible to claim the Homestead Property Tax Refund.

About Mike Schrant

Mike is one of those guys who has spent nearly a lifetime trying to figure out what he wants to do when he grows up. He has split time as a broadcaster and educator having first worked in radio in the early 1970’s while attending junior college. The two careers are directly connected because many of the 25 years as an educator were spent teaching broadcast journalism at the high school and college levels. Mike is married and has three adult children (no grandchildren yet) and enjoys sports, debating politics, gardening, landscaping-hauling rocks, and swapping stories with the "good old boys".
