ACRE Program sign up extended

August 14th of this year is the new deadline from the U.S. Department of Agriculture for farmers wanting to enroll in the 2009 Farm Program DCP –ACRE Program and Pulse Base Acres extension.
The base year prices and yields have been set for Kansas in the ACRE Program with a sign up date that will probably be set sometime in late this month. There are, however, some provisions under the ACRE Program where final policy has not been determined yet. One area still in limbo is whether the USDA will allow crop insurance records to be used as acceptable proof to prove yields.
According to the FSA office in Mankato, a University of Illinois website provides a good video explanation of the 2008 Farm Bill and the expansion of the ACRE Program within it.
The video is called Flash Movie Presentation on the 2008 Farm Bill. It can be accessed by going to www.farm.doc.edu

About Mike Schrant

Mike is one of those guys who has spent nearly a lifetime trying to figure out what he wants to do when he grows up. He has split time as a broadcaster and educator having first worked in radio in the early 1970’s while attending junior college. The two careers are directly connected because many of the 25 years as an educator were spent teaching broadcast journalism at the high school and college levels. Mike is married and has three adult children (no grandchildren yet) and enjoys sports, debating politics, gardening, landscaping-hauling rocks, and swapping stories with the "good old boys".
